The 6 main benefits of an Amazon registry

  1. Completion Discount:  After you create an Amazon baby registry, you will receive a completion discount code for 10% (regular members), or 15%(for Prime members) off your next orders. It can be used for a one-time purchase and you’ll get an email 60 days before your due date and you can use with within 60 days after your baby’s arrival. This is not applicable for gift registry purchases, but you can apply the discount to any product in Amazon’s baby registry.
  2. Amazon Registry Rewards:  After you create an Amazon baby registry, Amazon will offer some “registry rewards.” It automatically includes coupons for Diapers.com , Gerber , and Similac .
  3. Free 365-day returns:  You will have the ability to return any unopened baby item (from your registry) for free within a full year of the original purchase date. If you bought the baby registry items yourself, you can return them within 90 days of the original purchase date, but there is extra shipping & processing
  4. Free 2-day shipping:  If you don’t qualify for the completion discount, but spend $250 or more on your baby registry (or combined registries), then items will be delivered 2-day shipping. If you buy everything from your baby registry yourself within 90 days of delivery, then you can get this free two-day shipping as well by entering your completion discount code.
  5. Universal registry:  You can add items from any website to your Amazon baby registry.
  6. Welcome box: You get a $35 surprise gift when you sign-up.

  • It is very user-friendly, except for finding the sign-up link.

How to create an Amazon registry

  • First, go to amazon.com and click on “Sign in” at the top right corner of the page.
  • Next, enter your email address and password, then click “Create an account.”
  • From there, enter your name, address, phone number and credit card information. This part can be tricky because it asks you for your due date. If you don’t have one then just pick a date that sounds good to you.
  • After that, click on “Create Baby Registry.” You will then see this window showing the completion discount code and registry rewards.
  • You can either create a gift registry or complete your baby registry right now by adding items to your list. Either way, Amazon will make it easy for all of your friends and family to see the products you need for your new baby.
  • After you finish creating an Amazon baby registry, click on “Manage Your Baby Registry.”
  • Click “Edit” and then next to the Completion Discount Code box, click on “Enter discount code or other promotion.”
  • From there, enter your completion discount code and hit “Apply to your baby registry.” Then you’ll see a message that says: “Your completion discount has been applied. Thank you for creating an Amazon Baby Registry.”
  • If you have any friends or family that are expecting, just forward them the link to your Amazon baby registry and they can get started right away. It’s a very convenient way to stay on top of things while preparing for your new arrival.

How to make the most out of Amazon baby registry

So you’ve started a baby registry with Amazon. Now what? Well, there are a few things here and there that you’ll want to keep in mind while filling your list with products for your new arrival.

  • Keep track of your due date:  This is probably the most important piece of information that you’ll need for this process. You don’t want to find out that you need certain baby products and then realize that you won’t be able to return them because they’re outside of the 90-day return window. To make sure this doesn’t happen, just use your due date as a reminder.
  • Add items from any website:  Just like we mentioned earlier, you can add items from any website to your Amazon baby registry. This includes big sites like Target and Walmart , but also smaller stores like Buy Buy Baby and Bed Bath & Beyond
  • Keep in mind the benefits:  Both of these companies offer a completion discount on their baby registries. However, it’s only when you buy everything from your baby registry yourself within 90 days of delivery that you can get this discount. In other words, if someone else buys the items for you then you won’t get the completion discount code .
  • Keep track of your registration benefits:  It’s important to keep track of all the registration benefits while filling your Amazon baby registry because you can only get them by adding all of the items yourself.
  • Keep track of your discounts:  It’s also important to keep track of your discounts because they may expire fairly quickly. You should be able to use these discounts on additional baby products, but if you don’t then it will automatically go back into your gift balance.
  • Add everything you need:  It’s good to keep in mind that everyone has different baby product needs. If you need certain baby products then make sure to add them to your list so you can get them at the discounted price. If not, then you can always return it without any issues.
  • Use rewards for future purchases:  If you’re looking for more baby products to buy, then just use the rewards that you’ve earned from your friends and family. This can be a great way to go green with your shopping habits.

How to get a completion discount

Now, you’ll want to make sure that you take advantage of the completion discount code. This is a big deal for new parents because it can help save them some extra money. They say all babies are different, but they all seem pretty similar. So how do you get these savings? Well, just follow these steps:

  • Use the item’s UPC code:  This is pretty straightforward. You really just need to enter an item’s UPC code, which you can find on the product itself or in its packaging.
  • Enter your completion discount code:   Once you have entered all of your product information and added everything that you need to your baby registry, then you’ll be able to enter your completion discount code. Make sure to read the fine print:    Make sure to check out any important information before using the completion discount code because it can change depending on if you’re part of Amazon’s loyalty program or if you’ve used this for one of your registry items in the past.

Some things to keep in mind

Here are a few important things that you’ll want to remember while using your Amazon registry completion discount code:

  • Cash refunds only: This is probably the most important thing that you’ll need to know about this promotion. It’s not an option for getting store credit or even issuing credits for future use. If you didn’t use the code correctly, then you’ll basically just get a big fat nothing.
  • Incorrectly entering your code :  It happens to the best of us, but it’s important that you enter your completion discount code correctly or else you won’t be able to get any savings. You can even go so far as to paste the code in your registry to make things even easier (this is what Amazon recommends).
  • Checking on the status of your code:  If you’ve applied your completion discount code and you don’t see any new savings, then this normally just means that it’s still processing. Just give it a little while longer and everything should be back to normal.
  • Purchasing made by friends and family:  If you’re purchasing the items on your baby registry using gifts from friends and family, then you’ll want to make sure that they enter a completion discount code for you. This can still work if it’s a gift card instead of a physical presence, but just expect a few more steps from your friends and family.

How to get Amazon baby registry gift bag

Now, you can get a free Amazon baby registry gift bag just for using the discount code from your completion discount code. You’ll need to be a part of their loyalty program in order to get this deal because it’s only open to members. The minimum purchase amount will vary depending on the time at which the transaction is completed. For instance, you can qualify for a free gift bag from Amazon with a purchase of $10 or more before tax.

If you end up purchasing everything on your registry using the completion discount code and this offer, then you’ll get a free gift bag without any minimum purchase amount. Just make sure that all of your items have been purchased before you get the bag, otherwise, you won’t be able to receive it.

What’s in the Amazon baby registry gift bag?  As soon as your transaction is completed and you have met all of the requirements needed for this offer, then you can expect a free gift bag from Amazon within four days. If not, then just give it some time and try again in a few days. Generally, this bag will include coupons for baby supplies, but there are some restrictions when getting this gift bag. You can’t use the coupons when purchasing diapers or wipes, but you also won’t be able to get any coupons that are related to general health care items for mommies-to-be.

My Review of Amazon Baby Registry: What I think after using it (9.5/10)

I have to say that Amazon’s baby registry turned out to be a really easy and convenient way for me to set up a list of things that I want for my soon-to-be-born baby. The completion discount is definitely a great incentive for completing your list, but you’ll have to watch out when using it because entering the wrong code can be costly. Free stuff is always awesome, but I didn’t like the idea of receiving something when I ordered everything on my registry using another completion discount code.

I also appreciate the universal registry that Amazon has created which allowed me to easily get specific products that were not available on Amazon’s website. I remember getting some baby beddings from IKEA and a non-wifi baby monitor from Walmart. It really takes the bulk of the work out of making your own registry and it makes things easier for both you and your friends and family.

How to return a registry gift

I ran into a couple of issues when it came to returns and cancellations. There were a few things that I returned because they simply weren’t practical for me, but Amazon made it slightly difficult for me to return these items. If the item was shipped using super saver shipping, then I wasn’t able to get my refund until another item happened to be purchased in order to get the shipping charge for that item.

I also had some issues when canceling orders, but it wasn’t anything too serious because I was still able to cancel them without being charged. Even so, you should try your best not to go over the two-per-day cancellation limit, or else you might end up losing your completion discount.

Pros of Amazon baby registry:

  • Free completion discount code if you use it properly
  • Allows you to add or remove items from the list whenever necessary because it’s a universal registry

Cons of Amazon baby registry:

  • Can be difficult to return an item if it was shipped through super saver shipping
  • Canceling an order might end up costing you the completion discount if you’re not careful
  • You need to be a Prime member to get the most benefits
  • The welcome box qualification is not straightforward if you are not a Prime member
  • I couldn’t easily find the baby registry link. This is the link if you are looking for it.

Amazon vs Target Baby Registries: A direct comparison

  • Freebies by Amazon vs Target Baby Registries: Amazon offers a completion discount code, but you’ll get a free gift bag by fulfilling the requirements. Target baby registry has no completion discount or free gift bag, but they have a Baby Welcome Box instead.
  • Welcome box/free box minimum amount: Target does not have minimum amount to get the free baby box. Amazon has a minimum purchase amount of $10
  • Range of products, Amazon Vs Target: Amazon has many universal items that can be added to your registry, but they are not listed on their site. Target has very few universal items that are available for purchase.
  • Return policy Amazon vs Target baby registries; Amazon allows you to return baby registry items for up to 365 days and redeem with gift card . Target requires you to return within 90 days.
  • Universal registry: Amazon offers a universal registry which allows you to add items from other websites, but Target does not.
  • Price range of products: Amazon has a wide range of price points for baby registry items, while Target is limited to only higher-priced baby items.
  • Ease of creating baby registry: Amazon is easy to manage and use, but you can’t save it easily in case you log in again in another browser or device. Target’s website is very simple but you can save your registry easily by getting a free account if you don’t have one already.
  • Total score of Amazon vs Target baby registries: Amazon wins my personal preference with a total score of 9.5 to Target’s 7 in a max score of 10.
