Best Travel System Strollers in 2022: All Available Options

For any parent considering a safe and maneuverable travel system, it is important to consider some features before making a purchase decision. In this post, I have reviewed the 10 best travel system strollers available in the market today. A baby travel system is perhaps the only item you need to do some serious research to understand as they are among the most expensive baby gear we’ve reviewed.

We’ve spent several weeks researching and comparing different features of the initial 23 baby travel systems that we shortlisted on this list. I was personally keen on each feature as I purchased a travel system that had weak frames that broke after 6 months. Like any customer, I was disappointed for losing the $480 as I had to purchase another stroller.

What is a travel system?

Typically, a travel system refers to a car seat and a stroller that you can attach to each other depending on the use. Being sold as a pair means that they feature a common brand that guarantees compatibility. You can also buy a bundle of the two separately from different brands and just join them together yourself.

Reviews of Our Top-rated Car Seat Stroller Combo You Can Get

Below are the reviews of our top 10 baby travel system strollers.

1. Britax B-Free Travel System & Britax B-Lively

Britax B-Free is our overall best travel system in this 2022 list and is closely challenged by a sister Britax-made B-Lively travel system which was our top recommendation this past year (2021). The B-Free travel system comes with an infant car seat, a base, and an adapter. We ranked it top specifically because of its easy compact fold, large 7 storage pockets, sturdy, maneuverable, and superior safety features with push-on LATCH connectors.

This B-Free travel system stroller was released as an upgrade to B-Free in March 2019 and is one of the few travel system strollers that is rated highly, 4.7/5 on Amazon as of January 2021. B-Lively was released a year before B-Free in May 2018 and B-Agile was released in 2017.

Aside from the B-Free brand, Britax has three other travel system strollers, the B-Lively, B-Agile, B-Ready which we compared. B-Lively is lighter (20 pounds) compared to B-Free (22 pounds) but B-Agile is the lightest (18 pounds) of them all. Both B-Agile and B-Lively are the most portable options but B-Free’s additional weight can be explained by a steel-reinforced frame for extra safety with side-impact protection, and EPS energy-absorbing foam (compared to light aluminum frames for B-Agile and B-Lively). B-Free also has 7 large storage pockets which other models lack.

B-Free also has a higher weight limit of 65, an adjustable handlebar, all-terrain tires and a 3-wheel stroller configuration, and spacious storage pockets which makes it better than B-Lively.

Both Britax B-Lively and B-Free have good flat recline, easy one-handed fold, all-wheel suspension, big canopies, and are compatible with all Britax and BOB infant car seats.

B-Free was released as an upgrade of B-Lively and is relatively more expensive than B-Lively.

B-Free is well-liked because of its superior safety features and is made to support babies from 4 pounds to those as heavy as 35 pounds (or 32″ height). It also has a large storage space that you can access from the back. This travel system is currently ranked number 23 out of the 100 best-selling baby strollers on Amazon.

Below is a demonstration of the Britax B-Free travel system:

Below is a demonstration and brief video review of the Britax B-Lively travel system:

Below are some other reasons that I really like about this travel system that I bet you’ll also appreciate:

  1. The 3-wheels with all-terrain rubber are very ideal for manoeuvering any terrain and what makes it even better is that the front wheel pivots making it easy to navigate through any obstacles.
  2. It is the easiest stroller to fold and you’ll appreciate traveling with this stroller as it folds easily and fits into any car trunk that you may plan to use.
  3. 7 storage pockets.
  4. B-Free model is heavier than B-Lively and B-Agile as it has a steel-reinforced frame for extra safety with side-impact protection, and EPS energy-absorbing foam.

When I was doing my research on the best strollers, my biggest concern was the size of storage bags as I had twins. Unlike the B-Lively model, the B-Free brand has 7 spacious baskets and if you plan to use it when visiting the zoo or just any park, you can rest easy knowing that the storage space can carry enough items including foods, diapers, and much more.

Below is a review from a parent who is very happy about this travel system:

My husband and I decided to go with this one because of the high safety ratings, steel reinforced frame, grow with me insert, and easy install. We also decided on this stroller because it had the oversized canopy, big storage compartment, and will grow with our child. The material was true to the description, very nice and high quality as well as breathable. Very easy install for the car seat, Emorris, Jan 2019

The only disadvantage with this Britax travel system is that its handlebars are not adjustable.

Both Britax B Livey and Britax B Free brands have similarities such as age recommendations (suitable for 6 months and under) and both are not suitable for running or jogging. However, Britax B Lively is lighter than the B-free brand by 2 pounds. B-Lively weighs 20 lbs and B-Free weighs 22 pounds.

Despite the differences, both brands are equally good and Consumer Reports rated them equally when they subjected both to tests.

Pros and Cons of Britax B-Free

2. UPPAbaby VISTA 2 Stroller (Jordan Style)

UPPAbaby is considered a high-end brand with some of the most expensive strollers in the market. Our second choice is UPPAbaby Vista which is a new line of sharp-looking travel systems with a sleek design made with utmost attention to detail. UPPAbaby VISTA was introduced in 2020 as an upgrade to the cheaper UPPAbaby MINU. While it comes behind Britax’s B-Free and B-Lively models, UPPAbaby’s strollers came second because of their high price tickets, almost double the prices of Britax travel systems.

There are four UPPAbaby strollers; the VISTA, VISTA V2, CRUZ, and MINU, and MINU is the most affordable going for about $400 which is comparable to Graco and Britax car seats as it is designed for one baby. The other UPPAbaby models can fit 2 or 3 kids. The latest model, UPPAbaby VISTA V2 was released to the market in February 2021 and more improved features compared to all other brands. While it costs almost $1,400, it is currently the 11th best-selling travel system on Amazon and UPPAbaby’s improvements on this new model are totally worth it.

The UPPAbaby MINU is one of the best infant car seats thanks to the auto-tightening LATCH system, seat-belt lock-offs, level indicators that parents love a lot, and no-rethread shoulder harness. Similar to B-Free, it has a double layer of side-impact protection, energy-absorbing EPS foam. Being an infant car seat, it is recommended for infants from 4 pounds to 35 pounds rear-facing. It is compatible with Chicco KeyFit, KeyFit30, and Fit2.

UPPAbaby brand may sometimes be regarded as a luxury or high-end baby products brand but some of its latest travel systems and specifically the 2921 UPPAbaby Vista V2 Stroller caught our attention. It currently has a 4.9/5 rating on Amazon and is ranked 11th by 300+ parents and is among the top 100 best-selling strollers on Amazon as of January 2021. This is despite it selling for more than double our best Britax brands above.

UPPAbaby VISTA V2 travel system with MESA infant car seat is probably the most stylish and high-quality brand on this list. It wins with its versatility as it can be used for more than one kid. Not just two. It can work for 3 kids. No surprise it cost almost triple the price of Britax travel system brands.

UPPAbaby VISTA V2 travel system released a series of UPPAbaby travel strollers with syles differentiated by names such as Jake, Jordan, Gregory, Emmet, and Henry. Our best is the Jordan Style of the Vista series.

The 2021 UPPAbaby Vista Jorda Stroller system is our overall best travel system by UPPAbaby coming ahead of UPPAbaby MINU stroller.

  • It comes with a front-facing and rear-facing toddler seat and has 6 positions your baby can recline to.
  • It is compatible with MESA Infant Car Seat as a direct attachment without requiring any adapters. It is also compatible with Chicco KeyFit, KeyFit30, Fit2, Maxi-Cosi, Mico Max 30, Nuna Pipa series, Peg-Perego Primo Viaggi and of course, UPPAbaby MESA.
  • It has a very large basket that can hold up to 30lbs of luggage and can be easily accessed.

It currently costs about $1000 on Amazon but you can check its current price here. If $900 is too much and still wants a lightweight UPPAbaby brand, you can check out the UPPAbaby Minu which costs $399. You can also check its price here.

3. Graco Modes Nest Travel System: Best Stroller with Reversible Seat

Graco Modes Strollers is our best stroller with a reversible seat, coming third on this list and we list it most for study to make it durable. This travel system comes with SnugRide 35 Lite Elite infant car seat, height-adjustable seat, child tray with cup-holders, expandable XL storage basket, and is made to self-fold very easily.

With an exemplary rating of 4.8/5 by more than 1,600+ customers that have reviewed it on Amazon, you can be sure that you’re getting value for your buck with this troller. It is very versatile and made with great materials and is priced very fairly compared to UPPAbaby.

As part of this list, we compared it with several of its peers in this list including the Britax, Chicco, Entflo, and Graco and we liked this particular model more because of its reversible seat. Graco Modes Nest is Graco’s most feature-rich stroller with the others being Modes Element and Modes Pramette.

4. Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System

Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System came fourth behind Britax, UPPAbaby, and Graco’s travel systems above. Released in 2020, this Chicco’s model of a travel system wins in versatility in design and other industry-leading features you can expect from a stroller. It comes with Chicco Keyfit 30 car seat with base and supports infants from 4 to 30 pounds and up to 30 inches in height with the stroller supporting kids up to 50 pounds. As of this update in January 2021, it is the second best-selling travel system stroller on Amazon. It is also available on sale by other retailers such as Walmart and Target.

This stroller is compatible with all Keyfit strollers (Keyfit 30 which it comes with, Keyfit 35 and Fit2) to make an awesome travel system. Below is what makes this Chicco stroller great;

When your baby is still an infant and doesn’t need to use the stroller seat, you can remove the stroller seat and use it as a stroller frame that you can attach to the Keyfit car seat. If you don’t want to opt for the lightweight frame stroller (made from aluminum) with a car seat, you can use the stroller seat as a complete stroller with a canopy.

Below are some other features of this travel system;

  • Features a 1-hand fold and self-standing compact folded position
  • Has a parent tray with storage and cup holder
  • Detachable stroller seat/canopy leave behind a lightweight frame stroller
  •  Multi-position reclining backrest for added comfort
  •  Large storage basket.
  • One-touch, linked rear brakes for parking

More than 800 reviews we collected and analyzed as part of this review are generally positive and we aggregated them to 4.5/5. As of this update, Amazon customers have given it a high rating of 4.6/5 (Over 450 customers).

Unlike B-Safe models by Britax, Keyfits are lighter and this is partly because Keyfits do not have steel-reinforced frames even though it makes it up by their energy-absorbing foam and side-impact protection. The pricing for both B-safe and Chicco Bravo Trio are similar, going for $379 as of this update in 2021.

Our B-Safe travel system recommendation above has a higher weight limit of 65 pounds compared to Chicco Bravo Trio’s 50 pounds limit. In addition, B-Safe has all-terrain rubber tires which are better than Chicco Bravo’s plastic tires.

Chicco Bravo Trio vs Bravo LE

There is a more expensive model of travel system by Chicco called Chicco Bravo LE which comes with a different infant car seat and a few other features that separate it from the Bravo Trio. See the comparison table below for more details.

6. Graco FastAction Fold Travel System

Graco FastAction Fold Travel System which includes FastAction Fold Stroller and SnugRide 30 Infant Car Seat, Bennett is our 6th best baby travel system. The stroller has attractive looks and is built using high-quality materials that enhance the comfort of your kids at an affordable cost.

Graco FastAction Fold Travel System is a convenient and smart choice because:

  • It fits through a standard doorway easily because it a has a lightweight narrow design
  • Its superb maneuverability owing to its double front wheels that create a strong foundation and adequate stability with double strolling.
  • The stroller has the largest storage and canopy in the market. For example, the stroller has mesh pockets where you put your toys, snacks, or sippy cups.
  • It offers extra safety and comfort for your child because the seat reclines in endless angles, which enhances the sleeping episodes for your kids.
  •  JPMA Certified extra-large storage basket.

Also, the travel system has a removable bumper and 5-point that yokes that keep your children safer and comfortable while strolling.

  • It is easy to store because it easily folds.

It is a reliable baby travel system stroller because it has a high rating of 4.6 out of 5 on Amazon, where 73% of the reviewers have given the product a five star.

Also, the travel system is not comfortable for caregivers, especially if they are of above-average height because the handlebar is relatively low and is not adjustable, while its brake bar that is between the back wheels makes you hit the stroller with your feet.

Unlike Graco Modes Click Connect, Graco FastAction Fold Click Connect is not a reversible stroller and has a lower infant car seat weight limit of just 30 pounds, against Modes’ 35 pounds.

7. Baby Trend Expedition GLX Jogger Travel System

Our 7th preference for the Best Travel System Stroller is the Baby Trend Expedition GLX Travel System which is also my favorite, most versatile, and lightweight jogging travel system stroller than you can get for less than $250.

We love this stroller because it accommodates infants as young as one day old up to 29.98 lbs. meaning you can keep fit as your newborn gets fresh air. For the stroller, the max weight recommendation is up to 50 lb. or up to 42″. The recommended use of an infant car seat is newborn’s weight up to 32 lb. or up to 32″. The stroller has an EZ Flex-Loc Infant Car Seat that has an energy-absorbing form for enhancing side impact head protection, which prevents your treasured baby from a head injury.

Also, we love Baby Trend Expedition GLX Travel System because of its features, which are:

  • Its complete 3-Wheel Jogger and  Flex Lock 32 lb infant car seat with lock in car base

  • It is an all-weather and all-terrain jogger, meaning you can use it in any condition

The downside to using the Baby Trend Expedition GLX Travel System, however, is that it is difficult to travel with because it is bulky.

If you are a parent that is passionate about your physical fitness, yet unsure of leaving behind your kid when going for a jog, the Baby Trend Expedition LX Travel System, Millennium is the best travel system stroller for you.

Baby Trend Expedition GLX Travel System is available on Amazon for about $250

  1. Make sure that all the pieces are put together by taking your time to install.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the process of clipping and unclipping the stroller into the car seat as many times as possible before doing it with your baby on it.
  3. Confirm your car seat’s expiry date to ensure that it compliments with the up-to-date safety features set. This improves your baby’s safety.
  4. To ensure that your car seat passes all the federal safety standards and certifications, look for a tag that reads the following: “This restraint system conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards. This restraint is certified for use in all motor vehicles and aircraft.”
  5. DO NOT let your baby sleep in the car seat frequently as it is not recommended.

Alternative travel options

I would recommend investing in a universal stroller frame if you do not want to purchase a full-size stroller. What makes it a good alternative is that it snaps to the bottom of your car seat allowing you to wheel your little one around without having to remove him or her from the car seat. I also love universal stroller frames because they are economical.

How to choose a stroller travel system

Whether you are interested in travel system strollers with rubber wheels, adjustable handles, or bassinet, you cannot go shopping blindly. Some are suitable for girls or twins, custom-made to fit your small car or any other needs. So, here are factors that you must consider before buying:

Safety
The travel system stroller should meet the American safety standards with certifications from JPMA among other agencies. Also, ensure it is not involved in a recall and that it comes with a safety harness for improved baby safety.
Also check that the system has good brakes that are easily accessible, either with your foot or hand-operated. This improves the control and safety of your child.
Recline function
Helps hold your newborn in the most appropriate and comfy position that prevents his or her head from drooping forward.
Canopy
Go for a travel system stroller that features a canopy to protect your baby from harmful sun rays and water. Check that the stroller canopy is extendable or adjustable with mesh panels for enhanced breathability. I would also recommend a model that allows your baby to see the world.
Size & Fit
Make sure that the system will fit in the back seat of your car by taking measurements as well as the trunk when folded.
Storage & Care
TPick a stroller travel system with roomy storage space that fits your baby’s necessities and ensure that the material and upholstery are easy to clean. If you find one with removable and machine washable seat covers, the better.
Adjustable handlebars & suitable stroller wheels
Choose a system with an adjustable handlebar to help fit different users in your family for ease of use and comfort. The wheels should be lockable for security and control as well as large wheels to make maneuvering hassle-free in any terrain. If it has a suspension system, the better! Wheels come in many types, all with their advantages and drawbacks, but I prefer air-filled or foam-filled.
Usability & Installation
Select a stroller that is easy to open and close, especially with one hand as you hold your baby with the other. For ease of installation, I would prefer models with the LATCH system.

What Type of Stroller is Best?

The most suitable travel system depends on your lifestyle. There are three-wheel strollers and four-wheel strollers. Three-wheel strollers are great for stability enabling you and your baby to easily maneuver crowds. On the other hand, four-wheel strollers have extra features such as extra storage and cup holders. If you usually travel your need to get a foldable stroller that is compact and light.

In summary, here are the common types of strollers you can choose from:

  • Full-sized strollers: These are the most common stroller types and features storage, seating, canopies, and multi-person reclining chairs
  • Umbrella Strollers: These are lightweight and compact strollers that fold up like an umbrella. Usually not very sturdy and does not offer much storage space.
  • Double strollers: These are ideal for twins or two kids close in age.
  • Jogging strollers: These strollers are sturdy enough to go for a jog while the baby remains comfortable.
  • Combo strollers: These are strollers that easily convert from one to more kids, rotate bassinet or seat direction, and are often compatible with car seats
  • Travel Systems: These are the ones that come with a car seat or car seat adapters.
