Gifts for Girls

Parents with daughters understand how the preferences of girls change significantly over time. What a baby girl loves at 6-year old is not what she would be interested in at 10 years old. So, it’s important to think about the right gifts for girls as they grow older. This is why we came up with comprehensive guides that also provide some basic information about the developmental milestones for a typical girl at different ages from infancy to 18 years.

How did we do it?

We have experienced moms and teachers who are part of our team here at Motherhood HQ. We also got great insights from other moms in our Community/Network. To make sure we got it all right, we also consulted external behavioral scientists and child psychologists with a good understanding of their interests and behaviors.

We initially divided our gift guides into four age categories: 0-3 years, 4-7 years, 8-12 years, and 13-18 years. Within each category, we provided a range of gifts that cater to the different interests and developmental stages of girls in that age group. However, we found that a 4-year-old girl has different interests from a 7-year-old girl and ended up doing guides for each of the ages – from age 1 to 18.

Here is a summary of what you should know about the different age brackets;

Gifts for Infant Girls:

Infants have not really gotten the concept of gifts and may not appreciate anything that is given to them. At this stage, it’s more about spending time with your little one and enjoying the simple things in life together. That said, some parents still like to give their infants small presents on special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas.

If you do decide to give a gift to an infant, it is best to stick with something that is safe and age-appropriate. For example, soft toys, picture books, and clothing are all good options. Musical instruments and noisy toys are not recommended, as they may cause discomfort or even pain to a baby’s sensitive ears.

Gifts for Toddler Girls:

At this age, toddlers start to become more aware of the world around them. They will be able to understand simple instructions and may even be able to say a few words. This is why toys that promote learning and development are ideal gifts for toddlers. Look for toys that teach colors, shapes, counting, and other basic concepts.

In addition to educational toys, toddlers also love toys that can be used for pretend play. This could include dolls, kitchen sets, and tools. It’s important to make sure that the toys are safe and do not have any small parts that could be a choking hazard.

Gifts for Pre-Schoolers:

Pre-school girls aged 3-5 years old are starting to develop their own unique personalities. They will be more interested in playing with friends and exploring the world around them. At this age, girls also start to learn about gender stereotypes and what is expected of them as girls. This is why it’s important to choose gifts that promote creativity and allow for imaginative play.

Some good gift ideas for pre-school girls include arts and crafts kits, dress-up clothes, and playhouses. It’s also a good idea to get her a book that she can read herself. This will help her with her reading skills and give her a sense of accomplishment.

Gifts for Girls Aged 6-12:

Girls in this age group are starting to become more interested in their appearance and the way they look. They will also be more vocal about what they like and don’t like. This is the perfect time to start getting her interested in beauty and fashion. You can do this by getting her a makeup set, a jewelry set, or a dress up trunk.

It’s also a good idea to get her some toys that promote problem solving and logical thinking. This could include science kits, board games, and puzzles.

Gifts for Girls Aged 13-18:

At this age, girls are becoming young women and are preparing for their teenage years. They will be more interested in hanging out with friends and talking about their feelings. This is the perfect time to start getting her interested in relationships and boys. You can do this by getting her a diary, some relationship advice books, or even a subscription to a teen magazine.

Girls in this age group will also be interested in staying healthy and fit. You can encourage this by getting her a treadmill, some weightlifting equipment, or a Yoga mat.
