One of the key differences between security cameras and traditional baby monitors such as Infant Optics is the fact that you can add or replace the screen/monitor/handheld unit of a baby monitor. The display or the parent unit of the baby monitor can be obtained on Amazon or on retail outlets such as Walmart and Target.
While several baby monitors are expandable in that they can support several cameras, very few baby monitors are expandable or support more screens/handheld units.

Infant Optics released a standalone monitor or spare monitor unit that you can get without purchasing the other parts that make up the Infant Optics DXR 8 baby monitor such as a camera. Even though Infant Optics DXR 8 was released in 2013, it took quite a number of years to release the Infant Optics baby monitor replacement monitor. As of this update, it is the 32nd best-selling baby monitor accessory on Amazon as shown in the snapshot below:
Other competitors of Infant Optics such as Eufy Spaceview do not have a replacement or an additional monitor/parent unit/monitor only. In other words, you are unable to stream videos to more than one parent unit with Eufy, a feature that Infant Optics DXR 8 now allows you to.
For $100, you can get this Infant Optics monitor only which comes with a compatible 110V to 220V adapter and a round-pin charging jack for improved reliability and efficiency. This replacement parent unit is NOT compatible with older versions of Infant Optics that used micro-USB power adapters. You should also note that the current Infant Optics DXR 8 camera does not pair with more than one screen unit of Infant Optics DXR 8. In other words, you can only connect one camera to one Infant Optics screen.
If you’ve read our tips on how to deal with Infant Optics Customer service, you’ll know that we’ve advised parents that an additional/replacement monitor was available. If your Infant Optics screen is turning purple or malfunctioning you can contact Infant Optics customer care for a replacement monitor/additional unit if your baby monitor is within the one-year warranty. Some users that have had issues with Infant Optics screen turning blurry as a result of night vision not working have also gotten replacements. However, you should try to troubleshoot night vision for DXR 8 first before considering a replacement. Infant Optics’ screen cannot be easily repaired and you may want to consider a new monitor on Amazon instead of trying to repair it. The DXR-8 monitor only can only be connected to one camera at a time.

Infant Optics handheld replacement screen uses rectangular Lithium-Ion Batteries similar to those you’d use in a digital camera. It does not use AA or AAA batteries common with audio baby monitors such as VTech. Alongside is the Infant Optics monitor replacement battery.

Summer Infant is one of our 6 top touchscreen baby monitors in 2022 and we have a picture of the additional handheld/screen you may be looking for below. Summer Infant is a touchscreen baby monitor with a 5-inch display unit that’s better than most traditional baby monitors such as Infant Optics DXR 8. Other non-wifi baby monitors that have 5-inch display units include Eufy Spaceview which currently do not have an extra monitor available for sale.
