What is a touch screen baby monitor:

According to Elprocus, a touchscreen is an electronic visual display capable of detecting and locating a touch over its display area, essentially touching the display of the device with a finger or hand. There are four types of touch screens:

  1. Resistive touch screen
  2. Capacitive  touch screen
  3. Surface acoustic wave touch screen
  4. Infrared touch screens

What To Consider: Responsiveness of Touchscreen Baby Monitors

Touch screen baby monitors have been in the market since 2014 when Summer Infant released its first version of a touch-enabled baby monitor. The first versions of baby monitors had a lot of issues with a slow response. The screens took a long to respond to touch.  In fact, baby monitors we surveyed have less than 3.5/5 reviews on Amazon, except CasaCam BM200 which has 4.5/5. The review below is centered on the ease of use and the responsiveness of touch screens. We advise that you read all the reviews before purchasing a touch screen baby monitor.

We have reviewed a few baby monitors and centered our analysis on the features a touchscreen baby monitor has and the ease of use. The ease of use goes hand in hand with the quality of the display unit. If you like putting your baby monitor on your pocket, touch screen baby monitors may not be the best option for you as some are very sensitive and responsive to any touch. Parents have had great things to say about the wifi-enabled VTech VM981 touchscreen baby monitor, mostly because of its picture quality and its long battery life.  The baby monitor’s 5-inch touchscreen enables you to control the baby monitor. The 10 times zoom is one of its greatest features. In addition, the baby monitor can support up to 10 cameras at once and unlike other unreliable touch screen baby monitors, it comes with a one-year warranty. VTech VM981’s camera expandability got it into the list of best baby monitors to monitor twins. The unit also comes with a free 4G internal memory

One parent noted that “VTech VM981’s touchscreen is a TRUE touchscreen as it does not limit you to a few functions on the side of the screen. It actually uses super intuitive functions like pinch and swipes to zoom and move the camera.”

This monitor uses wifi and as a parent, you should make sure that you are using a secure internet connection. It is easy for wifi baby monitors to be hacked and we’ve detailed all the dangers of wifi baby monitors in a separate post.
