What is a diaper genie?
The diaper genie (Wikipedia) is a baby diaper disposal system invented by John Hall in 1992 under Mondial Industries Limited Partnership which later sold the invention to Playtext which started retailing it in the US market in 1999. It is made up of a plastic container with a plastic lid as shown in the picture below.

In 1999, Mondial Industries L.P. owned the original diaper genie but sold it to Playtex Products Inc. 1999 as reported by the New York Times in a story that was published on Jan 15, 1999. When the story was reported 20 years ago, diaper genie was the leader in the diaper disposal retail market with 82% market share. Originally created in Britain, the diaper genie became popular in the US in the mid-1990s.
What Is Diaper Genie Used For?
The diaper genie diaper system seals each diaper individually in a scented fold that ensures germs and odor do not spread. A soiled diaper can be inserted at the top of the diaper genie container and the lid is replaced and twisted three times to completely seal the soiled diaper.
