Mounting Baby Monitors(Vava, Infant Optics, Eufy & Others)

Where To Put Baby Monitor: Positioning the Baby Monitor

For safety reasons relating to baby monitors emitting radiation, you need to make sure that the baby monitor is positioned at least 3 feet away from the baby. You can choose to position the camera anywhere in the nursery as long as the camera viewing angle covers the entire crib.

If you are using a baby monitor with a camera and night vision feature, you need to check the night vision range of your baby monitor. If the night vision range is 15 ft., you should make sure you don’t position your baby monitor more than 15ft away from the baby’s crib. Surpassing the night vision range will render the camera useless at night as you won’t be able to see pictures of your baby at night. You also need to make sure that the microphone in the camera is not situated too far from the baby because you should be able to hear any sound from your baby.

One last thing that you should make sure of is to hide the cords so your baby is not at risk of strangulation. Many parents find DIY methods to hide cords but you can explore products such as Wiremold (shown below) which has been designed to specifically assist in hiding cords in a baby’s nursery.

You can mount your baby monitor on the wall or on the crib and you’ll have to consider a few things before you decide on the wall or the crib.

Locations to Put Baby Monitor In the Nursery

Most baby monitors come with mounting instructions that will guide you on where you can position the camera in the crib. You can get creative and choose locations such as:

1. Table Mount / Flat Surface Mount

A table or flat surface is the most common place to place your baby monitor. Some baby monitors do not give an option to mount it on the wall and are better mounted on a flat surface such as a table. If the camera has a flat surface base, you can mount it on a table next to the baby’s crib. Some of the baby monitors that can be mounted on a flat surface are Miku baby monitor and Arlo baby monitor.

Vusee flat surface mount can enable you to safely hide the cords and ensure your baby monitor camera is fixed to one position.

Vusee Flat surface mount is made of plastic and is very light making it easy to carry. It will also cost you less than $15 but you can check its current price on Amazon here.

2. Wall Mount

Wondering how to mount a baby monitor on the wall? It’s easy. Your wall is another location you can place your baby monitor. You can mount your baby monitor on the vertical wall as shown or you can design a shelf attached to the wall with a flat surface. Doing a proper baby monitor wall mount will provide you with an accurate bird-eye view of the baby’s crib and possibly the whole nursery. Your wall is the most secure place to mount your baby monitor as it will be out of the baby’s reach.

a)Flat Shelf on Wall Mount

Mounting your baby monitor on the wall gives you a lot of flexibility to move and position your baby monitor and avoid any blind spots.

You may need screws to mount your baby monitor on a vertical wall but you can also use an adhesive small shelf stand.

b) Adhesive Small Shelf Stand

The stand will let you avoid drilling holes as the stand shown below uses the adhesive strip to stick to the wall. Alongside is a shelf stand that has a baby monitor mounted on it.

The installation is damage-free, and the shelf can hold up to 2 pounds.

c). Flat Shelf with Cable Management

You can also use a flat shelf with cable management. A flat shelf is made to handle electronic devices such as baby monitors.

Instead of having to run the cables from your monitor to the side of the shelf, the wire goes through a hole in the middle of the shelf.

To blend into your kid’s room decor, you can pick the white or black option. Also, depending on the length of the surface you need, you can choose between the 9-inch or 12-inch wide with a 3.75-inch depth.

3. Crib Mount

Your crib is the third place you can place your baby monitor. Attach the baby monitor to the crib. Unless your camera is wireless and emits zero or very low electromagnetic radiation, this mounting method is not preferred or recommended.

4. Baby Monitor Ceiling Mount

Few baby monitors can be installed in the ceiling. While placing your baby monitor on the ceiling may not be common, if your baby’s nursery is squeezed, this is a great option. You can install your baby monitor on the ceiling using any baby monitor ceiling mount. Some baby monitors have ceiling mounts while others require you to improvise.

5. Electricity Plug Mount

Some baby monitors can be plugged into the regular electricity plug.

6. Corner Mount

Corner shelf with cable management- The VuSee corner sheld has a universal fit and can hold any baby monitor camera. It works with Infant Optics, Summer Infant, Angelcare, Avent, Graco, Samsung, VTech, and Safety 1st baby monitors.

Just like the other baby monitor shelf, the VuSee doesn’t require to be fixed permanently, has it uses a 3M Command strip to hold firmly on the room wall. But, if you want to make it extra secure, you can add screws and anchors. I would worry about making it more secure because the shelf can hold up to 2 pounds, which is more than enough to hold a small camera. This shelf is made in the USA, and it’s my top pick concerning safety.

Dangers of Baby Monitor Cords

The video below describes a tragic incident of a baby who died

How to Hide Baby Monitor Cord & Safety Tips

You need to hide baby monitor cords as your child is in danger of strangulation if you don’t. Since 2007, 7 babies have died of strangulation and a study showed that 60% of baby monitors chords are installed in unsafe places. In the picture below, the baby is not safe because the baby monitor cord and the monitor are not 3 feet away from the baby.

A common problem that parents make is mounting the baby monitors in the crib or on the crib railings. If the camera is not wireless, this presents a significant risk. Similar to cameras mounted on the wall with the cords touching the baby’s crib. You can use a wire mold or cover to hide the baby monitor cords. This will make sure that the baby is not able to play around and get to loose baby monitor cords. This video shows how you can use the wire mold to hide the cords:

You can also make sure that none of the wires are loose or touching the crib or edge of the crib.

Universal Wall Mount

Most baby monitors come with mounting tools and guidance on how to mount the particular baby monitor. If you purchase a baby monitor with bad mounting features and accessories, you can get a universal wall mount capable of holding a baby monitor camera of up to 2 pounds.

The universal wall mount is capable of holding a baby monitor camera of up to 2 pounds. It is very easy to install, requires no tools and you’ll only need a 3 M adhesive strip to hold to the wall.

The VuSee universal wall mount is compatible with most baby monitor models. If you own an Infant Optics, Summer Infant, Angelcare, Avent, Graco, VTech, or Safety 1st monitor, it will work. If it doesn’t fit, the company will refund you, no question ask.

Infant Optics Wall Mount and Mounting Instructions

You can mount Infant Optics to the wall without needing any additional accessories. When you purchase it, it comes with a screw and anchor which you can insert on the hole at the bottom of the Infant Optics camera and mount it on the wall. The hole is located at the base of the camera. It will take you less than 10 minutes to mount the Infant Optics camera to the wall in your baby’s nursery.

Important guidelines to mount Motorola Baby Monitor

  • To use your Video Monitor Baby and Parent Units together, you must be able to establish a radio link between them, and the range will be affected by environmental conditions.
  • Any large metal object, like a refrigerator, a mirror, a filing cabinet, metallic doors or reinforced concrete between the Baby and Parent Unit may block the radio signal.
  • The signal strength may also be reduced by other solid structures, like walls, or by radio or electrical equipment, such as TVs, computers, cordless or mobile phones, fluorescent lights, or dimmer switches.
  • Use of other 2.4 GHz products, such as wireless networks (Wi-Fi® routers), Bluetooth™ systems, or microwave ovens, may cause interference with this product, so keep the Baby Monitor away at least 3ft from these types of products, or turn them off if they appear to be causing interference.
  •  If the signal is weak, try raising the Parent Unit’s Antenna, moving the Parent and/or the Baby Unit to different positions in the room(s).

Here is a youtube video explaining the pairing process of a motorola baby monitor;
